A journalist, writer and translator, was born on 13th September 1962 in Ceska Lipa. In the mid-1980s, he emigrated to France and completed his studies in Journalism and International Relations in Paris. After he returned to the Czech Republic in 1990, he contributed to Czech, French and Belgian newspapers. Since the late 1990s he has published literature in Czech and since 2008 he has returned to live in Paris and been writing also in French.
In the early 1990s, Danes was a diplomatic adviser to the Office of the President of the Republic. Afterwards, he mainly practised journalism. He was the Editor in Chief at Denni Telegraf (Daily Telegraph, 1993-94), the monthly Mezinarodni politika (International Relations, 2000) and the Czech version of the American magazine Hustler (2001-2004).
He publishes books with his journalistic texts – Kdo zabil Václava Klause? (Who killed Vaclav Klaus?), Kdo zazdil Václava Havla (Who Walled up Vaclav Havel), Nevěřme báchorkám (Don’t Believe Stories) – and literature: collections of short stories Pokusy o lásku, pokusy o rozkoš (Attempts at Love, Attempts at Pleasure), České výpečky (Czech Fools), novels Možná to nepraskne (It May Not Blow Up), Výkřiky paní Mac Macwaarové (Mrs. Mac Macwaarova‘s Screamings), Jak se nestat spisovatelem (How to Not Become a Writer). He is the author of the play Předseda (The Director) and has manuscripts of a novel and a collection of short stories in French.
