Marek Epstein (1975) studied at a sports-specialized grammar school, then attended the College of Drama for three years. He graduated from FAMU in screenwriting and script editing.

He twice won the Sazka Prize for an as-yet-unrealized script. He also had success twice in the national round of the Hartley Merrill Prize, an international screenwriting competition. In 2002 Czech Television screened productions of Trosečníci, Iguo-Igua and Bůh ví which were based on Epstein’s texts and filmed by Tomáš Krejčí. The film Ryna (2005), a Swiss-Romanian co-production directed by Ruxandra Zenideová, was based on Epstein’s script. Jiří Vejdělek also realized the films Roming and Václav. Czech TV screened the television film BrainStorm under the direction of Jiří Strach. Marek Epstein wrote scripts for the television series Poste restante (Czech TV). He is also the author of the novella Ohýbač křížů (publ. Labyrint 2006) and lectures at the Filmová akademie in Písek.
