Jan Faktor (born 1951) moved to East Berlin in 1978 together with his wife. Initially, he wrote in Czech and subsequently translated his writing into German.

Gradually, he increasingly experimented with German language. Faktor has several books under his belt: Schornstein (2006), Georgs Sorgen um die Vergangenheit oder Im Reich des heiligen Hodensack-Bimbams von Prag (2010), which received a nomination for the Leipzig Book Fair Award, as well as the 2010 German Book Prize. His articles regularly appear in Lidové noviny’s Orientace pages.
