The poet, publisher and noted promoter of Moravian cultural life Jaroslav Erik Frič was born on August 14th 1949 in Horní Libina u Šumperka. From 1969 he was actively involved in Moravian “underground” events: e.g. he co-founded the samizdat edition of Texty přátel, and together with Jiří Frišauf and Jiří Kuběna he ran the home-based theatre group Šlépěj v okně.
In 1991 he founded the publishing company Votobia, after two years he abandoned it and set up another one, Vetus Via – he is still its editor-in-chief and owner to this day. In the late 90s he published the magazine Potulný dělník for two years, since 2000 he has organized an annual festival with the same name in Brno; in 2002 he added to this the festival Konec léta. Since 2003 he has been the publisher of the cultural review Box. In recent years he has linked his poetry with music and has worked together with others such as the ensemble Čvachtavý lachtan and the musician Pepa Klíč. He is involved in journalism and occasionally works with Czech Radio in Brno. He mainly lives in Brno.
