Bára GREGOROVÁ

The translator, author, journalist, traveller and musician Bára Gregorová was born in 1980 in Turnov. She studied at the Faculty of Education (Czech language and civic education) and then at the Arts Faculty of Charles University (Polish and Russian). She made her debut in 2008 with the prose work Kámen – hora – papír, for which she was nominated for the Jiří Orten Prize.

She translates contemporary Polish and Russian prose (e.g. Masłowska, Pilch, Łoziński, Sorokin, Děněžkina). She has made several trips to the countries of the former USSR in Central Asia, in Russia and Poland. She plays the saxophone and sings in the musical ensemble Jenisej. She edits the Polish section of the internet portal www.iliteratura.cz. She also contributes articles to the biweekly A2, the cultural section Práva Salon, Labyrint revue and other periodicals. She is the author of the blog www.komsomol.bloguje.cz. She lives in Prague.
