The poet and prose writer Kateřina Kováčová was born on the 16th of July 1982 in Příbram. She studied Czech and English at the College of Education at J.E. Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem (from 2001–2006); during her studies she worked for the local cultural periodical Pandora. In 2005 she was awarded the Jiří Orten Prize for her poetry-prose debut Hnízda (published by CKK sv. Vojtěcha, 2005). She lived in Britain for a long period and currently lives in Ústí nad Labem.
