Přemysl Rut was born in Kutná Hora on March 10th 1954. He studied theatre directing and from 1980-1984 was involved mainly with the Slovácko Theatre in Uherské Hradiště where he also ran the Small Stage cabaret. Since the 1970s he has worked with Ivan Vyskočil and other leading figures from Czech theatre.
After the Hradiště cabaret was banned he returned to Prague, where between 1984 and 1990 he taught at the music and drama conservatory. From 1986-1990 he worked with the Small Czech Theatre. From 1987-1990, along with Karl Kraus and Václav Havel he co-published the samizdat review O divadle. After 1989 he was an editor of Literární noviny and since 1993 he has worked freelance. He is now the head of the Department of Authorial Creativity and Pedagogy at the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Music and Arts in Prague.
Přemysl Rut is a writer, dramatist, essayist, narrator, entertainer, singer and musician. He writes and works for TV, radio and the live scene.
