Vojtěch Steklač (* 21st October 1945, Příbram) is a Czech translator and writer, the author of 30 books and an editor of many years standing. After passing his school-leaving exams (1963) he continued his studies at the Arts Faculty of Charles University, where he studied sociology and philosophy. He graduated in 1970.
His literary activities began during his university studies when he was 19. In 1969 he became editor of the magazine Ohníček and then Pionýr. He worked for the magazine Pionýr for ten years and quickly became its editor-in-chief. In 1989 he was editor-in-chief of the magazine Filip for several months and then he became a script editor for Czechoslovak Television, which he remained until 1991. Since 1991 he has been a television scriptwriter and a writer by profession.
He is the author of novels (Zrcadla, 1968, Samota Blažejov, 1969, Sbohem, lásko, 1974, Černá slunce, 1976, Skok přes růži, 1979), detective novels and stories (Jak se vraždí slavík, Zlatá brána) and especially children’s literature. He is best known for his series about a gang of boys from Prague’s Holešovice (Boříkovy lapálie, Pekelná třída etc.)
