2010 Jiří Orten Award winner Jan Těsnohlídek, Jr was born on 11 April 1987 in Havlíčkův Brod. He spent most of his life in Krucemburk, a town in the vicinity of Žďár nad Sázavou and started writing while studying at the K. V. Rais Grammar School in Hlinsko.

He received a number of literary awards (including Orten’s Kutná Hora 2005–2008, Václav Hrabět’s Hořovice 2006, 2008). After completing his secondary education, he worked in a number of jobs – in cafés, bookshops, galleries, fastfood restaurants, notary and legal offices, etc. He subsequently moved to Prague where he briefly studied library and information studies at Charles University. His poems have been published in literary magazines such as HOST, Tvar and Psí víno. His award-winning debut Násilí bez předsudků (Violence Without Prejudice) appeared as part of the Stůl book series in 2009. The second edition of the title was published in the same year by Petr Štengl, as the first book in their Pop series. Těsnohlídek‘s poems have been translated into English, German, Italian, Polish and Slovenian and published in Czech and international magazines and anthologies. He attended an international literary festival in Slovenia and received a month-long residency in Jyväskylä, Finland. Between 2008 and 2011, he acted as the deputy editor of Psí víno, a journal for contemporary poetry. Since 2011 he has been a jury member for a literary competition aimed at young authors called Ortenova Kutná Hora. His second collection, Rakovina (Cancer), was published in 2011 by his own publishing company JT’s. Jan Těsnohlídek lives and works in Prague.
