(b. 1960) is a literary theoretician, historian, critic, and editor, and university teacher.
He is the deputy at the Institute for Czech Literature at the Academy of Sciences in Brno, he also teaches at the Institute of Czech Literature at the Arts Faculty of Charles University. He focuses on a broad range of topics: he publishes theoretical studies on interpretation, he constantly keeps track of contemporary Czech poetry (Poezie poslední možnosti, 1996; Na tvrdém loži z psího vína, 1998 – coauthor: Zdeněk Kožmín). He reflects the changes of Czech and international novels (Příběh je mrtev?, 2003), he edited a selection of writings by Ivan Jelínek and a selection of poetry by Jan Zábrana. His book Jak si děti osvojují příběhy is a probe into cognitive narratology. At present, Trávníček has been implementing a vast survey on Czech reading and readership; the first results have been published in a book called Čteme? (2008).
