Eva Profousová (1963), translator. She emigrated to Germany in 1983 and studied Eastern European history and Slavonic Studies in Hamburg and Glasgow. As a literary translator she focuses on contemporary fiction, plays and essays: Radka Denemarková, Jaroslav Rudiš, Martin Šmaus, Jáchym Topol, Kateřina Tučková, Michal Viewegh and Petr Zelenka.
She is actively involved in the presentation of literary translations (a founding member of www.weltlesebuehne.de and promoting the culture of Central and Eastern Europe – www.postkartell.org). Her activities include conference presentations, literary recitals and reviews of contemporary Czech literary events.
Awards: 2012 – Georg Dehio Buchpreis; 2011 – 1st Usedomer Literaturpreis (both for her translations of Money From Hitler by R. Denemarková), 2010 Hamburger Förderpreis für literarische Übersetzung (2010 for her translation of Jáchym Topol’s Through a Cold Land). She lives in Berlin.
