This first anthology of Janda’s work in English is translated from the Czech by Dagmar Štěpánková with the assistance of David Greenslade, Bill Howe, Jan Cap, Basil Clarke & Ivana Franova-Mensik and is edited by David Greenslade.

Josef Janda was born in 1950. He grew up in Pribram, a mining industrial town about 60 kilometres south of Prague. There he graduated from a Technical School of Mechanical Engineering. He worked in various technical jobs until his retirement. He has lived in Prague since 1977. Between 1970 and 82, he played keyboards in various rock groups, some of which were underground. He started writing poetry in the latter half of the 1970s. Since 1984 he has been a member of a surrealist group whose member among others is Jan Svankmajer. During the totalitarian regime he was unable to publish officially. After 1989 he published several collections of poetry and is included in various anthologies. Apart from writing poetry he writes art journalism.
