Children’s and Young Adult

Marka Míková (1959) has vast experience in film, theatre and music. Currently, she is capitalising on it as an author of books for children and adolescents, or rather for teenage readers. In her fourth work, Skyscrapers , she was inspired by the scenery of American cities, dominated by the skyscrapers mentioned in the book’s title, as well as both her own and her four children’s childhood experiences. She approached the book as a dramatically and dynamically written modern fairy-tale or rather a short story set in a real environment and developed through fairytale, fantasy elements. Her heroines and heroes maintain an open, playful and slightly mystifying approach to the world, but at the same time, they go through existential situations within their stories – as they mature. An exceptionally successful mix of fun and serious writing. And not just for children and teenagers.
