Five minutes remain before Mother will be finished preparing dinner. Little Babeta perches herself on Father’s lap and begs him to tell her stories. Since Father isn’t good at making up tales he instead talks about Mother and him and about how Babeta came into this world. Father tells Babeta that soon after she was born the doctors realised that she was blind. She couldn’t see the real world with her eyes and so created one of her own, which she could see through her imagination. Babeta’s world was not at all less rich or colourful than the real world; it was simply different. She could see Mother and Father, the neighbour`s cat, storms and raindrops as well as the wasp which stung her, and she could even see herself in the mirror. After undergoing a successful eye operation, Babeta is finally able to see Father, Mother and herself. She is astonished at how different everyone is from what she had thought. But although many things and people have suddenly changed in appearance for Babeta, the most imporant thing remains the same: The world of Babeta`s family is still one in which people love each other. Fathe’s “tale” finishes and Mother’s voice announces from the kitchen: “Dinner’s ready!”
