In her work of prose, Skoby/Punkt Memory, illustrated by Viktorie Rybáková, Svatava Antošová has created an original conceptual format: in a freestyle language—accentuating its inexhaustible rhythmic malleability—she presents a series of “emotional images” the ontogenesis of one young soul stricken with family tragedy, a girl creating gradually and intentionally her own “surrogate world” – lock, stock, and barrel. This book is doubtless an allegory: the girl Dolfi is a model type of an intellectually well-equipped world perceiver with all its tendencies toward self-destruction. After all, her hazardous interface between states of “ordinary” and artificially “enhanced” perception bears witness to the latent possibilities of catastrophic auto-destruction immanent to every solitary human fate.
