The issue presents work from a varied group of writers — men and women, young and old — to introduce English-language readers to the vibrant, vital world of new Czech writing.Susan Harris, Words Without Borders editorial director, said of the issue, “Czech literature is not well known in English, and the work that has been translated has been mainly political and largely male. At this twenty-fifth anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, we’re delighted to bring these diverse contemporary writers to our readers.”

In the volume you will find extracts from work by Magdaléna Platzová, Tomáš Zmeškal, Petra Soukupová, Jan Balabán, Radka Denemarková, Petra Hulová, Jakuba Katalpa, Jiří Kratochvil, Martin Ryšavý, and Marek Šindelka.

The extracts were translated by Craig Cravens, Christopher Harwood, Julie Sherwood, Petera Sherwood, Michelle Woods and guest editor Alex Zucker, who also wrote the introduction.
