Czech Literary Centre residencies

The Czech Literary Centre, a section of the Moravian Library, announces its spring 2018 (March–June) residencies in Prague and Brno.

The residencies have two categories:

A) Residencies for translators of Czech and foreign Czech studies specialists
B) Residencies for foreign authors

Residencies for translators of Czech and foreign Czech studies specialists

Foreign translators of Czech, Czech studies specialists and literary scholars with an interest in Czech culture can apply for 2, 3 or 4-week study and creative residencies in Prague or Brno (in Brno, residents will have unlimited access to the resources of the Moravian Library). The residencies are not limited by age or target language of the translations. The aim of the residency is to give the resident time to create and research, meet with the author they are translating and get to know the Czech literary and cultural scene. The resident should be willing to take part in the local literary life (taking part in events held or arranged by the organiser). During the residency, the resident should work on a translation or research project.

Requirements for applicants:

  • Ability to communicate in Czech or English
  • At least one published translation or scholarly work (including in magazines)

Residency dates: March–June 2018

Locations: Prague / Brno

Residency conditions: Accommodation in a residency flat is covered, and a 250 EUR per week contribution to living costs and a contribution to travel costs based on the actual amount paid by the resident (max. 250 EUR for European residents and 700 EUR for non-european residents), proved by submitted travel documents, are paid to the resident.

Documents for the application (in Czech or English, in text or pdf format):

  • CV
  • Cover letter (including the applicant’s desired length, dates and location of the residency)
  • Description of the project the applicant will be working on during the residency
  • Bibliography

Further conditions can be found in the application form, which is an integral part of the application and is binding for the applicant.

Please send the documents to rezidence@litcentrum.cz.

Application submission deadline: 25 October 2017

Results: Will be announced 1 December 2017 on the Czech Literary Centre website (www.czechlit.cz)

Residencies for foreign authors
