Every year, the Department of Arts and Libraries (Odbor umění a knihoven) of the Czech Ministry of Culture issues a call for proposals to support the translation and publication of Czech literature abroad. The application form, which must be submitted by a foreign publisher, can be found here.
Last year the Ministry allocated 4 million crowns for 83 translations of Czech literature, including six English translations:
- Bohumil Hrabal: Harlekýnovy miliony, trans. Stacey Knecht (Archipelago Books, USA)
- Sylva Fischerová: Stomach of the Soul, trans. Sylva Fischerová, Stuart Friebert, A. J. Hauner (Calypso, USA)
- Marek Šindelka: Chyba, trans. Nathan Fields (Twisted Spoon Press, CZ)
- Michal Viewegh: Báječná léta pod psa, trans. David Short (Jantar, GB)
- Daniela Hodrová: Podobojí, trans. Véronique Firkusny, Elena Sokol (Jantar, GB)
- Bohumil Hrabal: Inzerát na dům, ve kterém už nechci bydlet, trans. Paul Wilson (New Directions, USA)
