The Leipzig Book Fair is not only one of the most important literary festivals in the world, it is also a key cultural and discussion forum. As a result, Czech authors can expect an increased interest in translations of their works. The Moravian Library in Brno will organise the Czech Republic’s guest of honour programme at the fair, which will feature Czech literature as well as music, art, academic seminars, discussions, and film screenings. The programme will be produced in cooperation with the city of Leipzig and supported by the government of Saxony. Cultural events will take place throughout 2019 in every major Leipzig cultural and social institution. The significance of the event was highlighted by the presence of the Mayor of Leipzig, Burkhard Jung, Saxony Minister of Culture, Eva-Maria Stange, and the Czech Ambassador to Germany, Tomáš Podivínský, at the agreement signing.
