Czech Republic presents its literature at the 2011 Leipzig Book Fair
Svět knihy (Book World), the Association of Czech Booksellers and Publishers, was commissioned by the Ministry to oversee the production tasks at these book fairs.
The Leipzing Book Fair, which takes place between 17th and 20th March 2011, is the second largest book fair in Germany with 2,150 exhibitors from 35 countries. The literary festival „Leipzig liest“ (Leipzig is Reading), which has complemented the trade fair with various happenings for twenty years, is set to encompass two thousand events at the exhibition centre and across the city this year and is thus the largest event of its kind.
Czech Republic’s showcase will extend over an area of 48 square metres. The country’s bookstall has been tailor made for the purposes of the Leipzig book fair and is situated at Pavilion 4, D403.
The Czech literary programme includes writers such Michal Ajvaz, Stanislav Komárek, David Jan Novotný and Jaroslav Pížl who aside from reading will also take part at a talk with the Slovak author Peter Krištúfek, which will traditionally take place at a Leipzig restaurant inspired by the famous Prague watering hall U Fleků.
Czech books are presented as part of the following exhibitions: The Most Beautiful Czech Books, 2009 and 2010 literary award winners, Golden Ribbon – awarded authors and illustrators of literature for youth and children, Czech Literature in Translation and News from Contemporary Czech Poetry and Prose. Also on display will be a book exhibition focused on the poet Jaroslav Seifert whose 110th birthday is celebrated this year.
The commercial section of the exposition will showcase nine publishing groups (Academia, Euromedia Group, Fermata, Harry Putz, Host, Mladá fronta, Pastelový svět, Slovart a VUTIUM).
Visitors will also get the chance to meet other Czech authors at the Leipzig Book Fair, namely Josef Moník, Luděk Navara, Milena Oda and Jaromír Typlt.
