The renowned Czech writer
Jáchym Topol praised the free service offered by the Czech Literature Portal in the paper
Lidové noviny on 17 July 2010. You can subscribe
here to the newsletter, which covers all the latest happenings, new books and events and receive it once a week directly into your inbox.
Bookworm‘s best friend is perhaps an apt description of the Newsletter, which is published by the Czech Literature Portal – an online magazine brimming with information. Or is it perhaps a bulletin? A literary compendium? A fanzine? Hard to say. One thing is certain, after devouring all the information, readers will gain a fairly comprehensive overview about the so-called "domestic literary operations". Surely, a genius might not need to know about what festivals are happening in some random place, where to find slam poetry on the following Saturday, which poet was awarded nor which Czech author was praised or panned in Norway.
All this literary data – including reviews, re-printed from Host or the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, nevertheless, demonstrate that literature and its fiends have caught a second breath. What’s more, it‘s an international bridge as the Newsletter also appears in an English version. The website, which is edited by Viktor Debnár and Jaroslav Balvín, was established in March 2009. The latest issue 29/2010, among others, informs about the recently published anthology The Return of Král Majáles edited by Louis Armand. The subtitle of this extensive opus is: Prague's International Literary Renaissance and it features 107 authors in total.
