Czech Writers Under Siege and Czech Literary History - lecture
On April 7, 2010 Professor Jiří Holý gave a lecture Czech Writers Under Siege and Czech Literary History. During his speech Professor Holý reflected on several problematic areas in recent Czech history -literary and otherwise − which he was forced to confront while writing his book for English-speaking readers (Writers Under Siege, 2008).
Jiří Holý (b. 1953), Professor at the Institute for Czech Literature and Literary Studies at the Philosophical Faculty of the Charles University in Prague, is one of the world’s leading experts on Czech literature of the twentieth century.
The meeting, organized by the Society of Arts and Sciences, was held in the Bohemian National Hall, 321 East 73rd Street (3rd floor), New York City, New York, USA.
