After ten years her new, fourth collection of poems. Her starting point remains the same, only it is deepened by the author. There is only one escape route from the problematic relationship: myself versus the other, or rather versus the whole world – through dreaming or through art. The past and the future does not matter here, only the present is valid, the current moment, the moment of rapture, mostly of love, therefore a rapture of an irrational nature. The imagery with which Rudčenková (1976) escapes the prose of everyday life, has the power of a magic formula. The word here is full of colours, comes alive in the excited flesh, it restlessly spills like the sea. Among returns to the roots, i.e. to the material of her own childhood, and fleeting anticipations of what could happen in the future, the presence pulsates – insecure, temporary, mortal, yet, the only one that is up for grabs. A mix of romanticism, existentialism, absurd drama. Simply great poetry.

German translations of Kateřina Rudčenková’s poems can be found on the Lyrikline website, and Rudčenková’s earlier collection You don’t have to visit me has been published in German.

Praise

“This new book by the acclaimed poet Kateřina Rudčenková is without a doubt a long-awaited event… As if the moderation of the author’s convictions went hand in hand with a moderation of expression.”

Michal Alexa, iLiteratura

“The poet observes and describes – often so aptly that it sends shivers through the reader… Walking on Dunes stands up to repeated reading, focusing on the individual layers which naturally intermingle and enlighten one another.”
