The mysterious island floating on the 65th parallel magically attracts many Czechs, and among them also a little girl called Hredka, which, in Icelandic, means radish. In the land of puffins, fish shops, geysers, thermal swimming pools and schoolchildren that are as playful as any other, the narrator uses magic to enter both other people’s and her own story, scrabbling it down into her notebook, accompanied by song versions of the jotted down rhymes. In Icelandic, everything ending in „-foss“, has something to do with a waterfall, and this whole journey to the north is also reminiscent of falling water: unbound by form the author manifests a remarkable grasp of the effervescence of the skate generation and its wish to read not by pages but by will.
