The narrator of these stories, which loosely carry on in form from his successful short-story collection Olej do ohně (Oil on the Fire), is a careful observer of scenes, events and the fates of those who have become enmeshed in a web of self-deceit and voluntarily give up their liberty and dignity in favour of their cosy adherence to prejudices and their vain desire to come up to the expectations of those around them.
