Poetry
Although Vladimír Mikeš is known mainly as a translator, he has also surprised us in recent years with his epic poems. Poetry is part of Mikeš’s life blood – a tool for remembering the past, for a diary-like recording of the present, and for questioning the meaning of life. In this latest collection of selected texts from 2015–2018, the author presents himself as a poet with an almost titanic gift for narration. At the same time, he portrays this reflection of reality in a vivid and contemporary language, which comes across as solid and assured – perhaps even more stable than an existence constantly under threat.
