In 2017, Lucie Lomová set a challenging target: to record every day of the year in comics. She also promised to herself she would not retrospectively edit the records. When she began with the diary, she could hardly guess how eventful the year would be. The sequence of the daily, repetitive activities – drawing at home at the table, practising Tai chi, shopping, feeding the birds in the park and doing housework – was disrupted by two significant family events. Her son revealed he is gay and has a boyfriend, and then her mother became seriously ill and doctors were sceptical about the chance of recovery. Apart from being a poignant graphic novel about experiencing everyday life and staying honest with oneself, Every Day Is New also shows the immense possibilities of spontaneous writing and drawing. Lucie Lomová is known as the Czech follower of the ligne claire style, and some of her previous graphic novels are very polished. But this time she had to work fast and, as a result, the art is dynamic, expressive and contemporary.

Lucie Lomová is a comics artist and illustrator. She has won the Muriel Award multiple times. Her books have been published in English, German, French and Polish. She was born on 23 July 1964.
