The Czech Literary Centre, a section of the Moravian Library, announces its autumn 2018 residencies for translators of Czech and foreign Czech studies specialists in Prague and Brno.

The Czech Literary Centre, a section of the Moravian Library, in cooperation with the Czech Scout Foundation announces its autumn 2018 residencies in Prague and Brno as part of the Jaroslav Foglar Residency Programme.

Residencies for translators of Czech and foreign Czech studies specialists

Foreign translators of Czech, Czech studies specialists and literary scholars with an interest in Czech culture can apply for 2, 3 or 4-week study and creative residencies in Prague or Brno (in Brno, residents will have unlimited access to the resources of the Moravian Library). The residencies are not limited by age or target language of the translations. The aim of the residency is to give the resident time to create and research, meet with the author they are translating and get to know the Czech literary and cultural scene. The resident should be willing to take part in the local literary life (taking part in events held or arranged by the organiser). During the residency, the resident should work on a translation or research project.

Requirements for applicants:

  • Ability to communicate in Czech or English
  • At least one published translation or scholarly work (including in magazines)

Residency dates:

Prague: September–November 2018
Brno: September–October 2018

Locations:

Prague / Brno

The resident receives:

  • A 250 EUR per week contribution to living costs
  • Accommodation in a residency flat

  • Completed application form (including a cover letter and a description of the project)
  • CV
  • Bibliography

Application submission deadline: 31 May 2018

Results: Will be announced by the end of June 2018 on the Czech Literary Centre website (www.czechlit.cz).
