The director of the Czech Literary Centre and the programme manager for the Czech Republic’s appearance as Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2026, Martin Krafl, has been appointed chair of the ENLIT board, an association of European national agencies which supports literary translations. He takes over this position in December from Margit Walsø, the director of the Norwegian literary agency NORLA, who has held this position for five years and will remain another year as vice-chair to ensure continuity at the ENLIT.
“My Norwegian colleague has set the bar extremely high. She has been a great inspiration to me, which I respectfully thank her for! I am greatly honoured by the trust which the board of ENLIT and the 30 members of the association from European countries have expressed in me through their choice. My nomination is a reflection of the work of the whole team at CzechLit and the Moravian Library, along with the support of the Ministry of Culture in promoting Czech literature and culture abroad,” said Martin Krafl.
Since 2012, ENLIT has been a network of non-profit organisations which invests in literary translation support programmes to give the literatures of Europe increased visibility internationally and in their respective countries or regions. Members without any translation support programmes work with other grant programmes and tools to enhance the circulation of translated literature.
As members of the ENLIT network we strive for a dynamic, diverse and easily accessible literary landscape across Europe and beyond, with a focus on the entire value chain of the book, while also supporting other stakeholders. To achieve our goals, we share information, engage in mutual promotion and communication, and work on collaborative projects. CzechLit has been a member of ENLIT since 2019.
