The Czech Ministry of Culture has announced its supported translations for 2016

The Ministry has allocated more than €190,000 for 111 translations of Czech literature.

Every year, the Department of Arts and Libraries (Odbor umění a knihoven) issues a call for proposals to support the translation and publication of Czech literature abroad. 111 translations will receive grants in 2016, which is 33% more than in 2015. The complete list of supported translations and the application form for 2016/2017 can be found here. There will be two deadlines for applications for 2016/2017:

  • 15th May, 2016 for books to be published in 2016
  • 15th November, 2016 for books to be published in 2017

The successful proposals this year include ten English translations:

  • Magdaléna Platzová: Anarchista (Bellevue Literary Press, USA)
  • Michal Ajvaz: Prázdné ulice (Dalkey Archive Press, USA)
  • Jáchym Topol: Anděl (Dalkey Archive Press, USA)
  • Antonín Bajaja: Na krásné modré Dřevnici (Jantar, UK)
  • Jaroslav Rudiš/Jaromír 99: Alois Nebel (Centrala, UK)
  • David Böhm: Ticho hrocha (Centrala, UK)
  • Vítězslav Nezval: Absolutní hrobař (Twisted Spoon Press, CZ)
  • Emil Hakl: Let čarodějnice (Twisted Spoon Press, CZ)
  • Jaroslav Durych: Boží duha (Karolinum, CZ)
  • Josef Jedlička: Kde život náš je v půli se svou poutí (Karolinum, CZ)
