The Czech Literary Centre had an interesting programme prepared for visitors to the book fair involving the participation of Czech authors.

Following a 12-year absence the Czech Republic was supposed to have returned to the Livre Paris book fair (20 – 23 March 2020), but the book fair will no longer be taking place due to the spread of the coronavirus in Europe.

“We’ve been following developments carefully and are in close touch with our partners in Paris. Together with our colleagues from the Paris Czech Centre and the Czech embassy we’ve been trying to find out whether we can go ahead with the accompanying programme, and we’re talking to our Czech writers to see if they’d participate,” said Martin Krafl, the head of the Czech Literary Centre, a section of the Moravian Library in Brno.

“The accompanying programme to the book fair was supposed to be held at the Paris Czech Centre and we’re trying to go ahead with that as best we can. We’ll be adding an exhibition of the Most Beautiful Czech Books and pop-up publishing houses,” confirmed Jiří Hnilica, director of the Paris Czech Centre.

More detailed information on the events in Paris will be released on Monday 9 March at the latest.
