On 23 July 2015, H.E. Jaroslav Olša, jr., Ambassador of the Czech Republic, and Mr. Virgilio S. Almario, Chairman of the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (Committee on the Filipino Language), signed the Memorandum of Understanding on a translation exchange program.

For the first joint project under the agreement, the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino is set to launch the book-length selection of the best poems by Nobel Prize winning Czech poet Jaroslav Seifert whose individual poems were published in Filipino anthologies in the late 60s and early 70s. This will be the second Czech book to be released in the Philippines following Václav Havel’s Memorandum, published in 1990 as Ang Memorandum by the Cultural Centre of the Philippines. An anthology of classic and contemporary Czech prose will follow next year.

The Czech literary monthly Plav has in turn published a selection of short fiction, poems and essays in a special Philippine issue, presenting both old and new literature from the Philippines to Czech readers.
